Ware County quarterback Nikao Smith has been selected the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week for Georgia.
The national recruiting database service selected the 6-foot-1,
175-pound junior as its honoree
for Week 8 of the Georgia season.
The service selects a player
weekly who combines exceptional
academic and athletic achievement.
Smith, a first-year starter, has a
4.3 grade point average, and has
received college interest from
Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth in
the prestigious Ivy League as well
as others.
In helping the top-ranked Class
AAAAA Gators to a 7-0 record,
Smith has completed 71 of 126
passes for 1,227 yards and 14
touchdowns with three interceptions. He has a quarterback rating
of 116.7.
“I’ve been so impressed with
Nikao’s work ethic and how much
he celebrates his teammates’ successes,” Ware County coach Jason
Strickland said. “He’s continued
to grow and develop as a player
and student, and is just scratching
the surface of the young man he is
going to be.”
Eight of Smith’s TD passes
have come in the last two games,
including five in Friday night’s
44-0 Region 1-AAAAA victory
against Greenbrier. Playing only
the first half, Smith was 10-for-13
passing for 206 yards.
He was recently named one of
the top junior quarterbacks in the
state by GaVarsity Rivals.
