William Harold Barber

PATTERSON — Mr. William Harold Barber, 79 of Patterson, passed away Sunday morning, September 25, 2022 at his residence.

Born October 3, 1942, in Waycross, Barber was a son of the late Marvin E. and Lera Herrin Barber. He had lived in Waycross and Screven before moving to Patterson in the early 1990s.

Barber was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. He had worked for Broadhurst Landfill in Screven and then worked and retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Appling County Commission. He was also the co-owner, with his wife, of K-Bar Kennel in Patterson.

Barber attended Blackshear Church of God and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his wife. He also enjoyed riding and talking about horses, and tending to his goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, and his female cat named “Tom.”

In addition to his parents, Barber was preceded in death by a son, Megan “Bud” Barber; a daughter, Tasha Batten; a granddaughter, Baylee Brewer; a brother, George Barber; and a brother-in-law, David King.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kathryn King Barber of Patterson; two sons, Billy Barber of Florida and Johnny Batten (wife Patty) of Waycross; a daughter, Sabrina Pippin (husband Kevin) of Patterson; seven grandchildren, Dustyn Batten (husband Scott Singletary) of Texas City, Texas, Deanna Peacock (husband Storm) of Blackshear, Brinalee Pippin of Patterson, Blake Mikell of Alma, Zac Mikell of Alma, Denean Swords of Blackshear, and Caleb Brewer (wife Pam) of Blackshear, 14 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Frances Simmons of Blackshear, Christine and A.C. “Scotty” Scott of Clanton, Ala., Richard and Pat King of Patterson, and Edward and Teresa King of Patterson; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, October 2, 2022 in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. A private burial took place at Blackshear City Cemetery.
