WAYCROSS — Mr. Ronald “Mike” Barber, 73, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at his residence in Waycross following a short illness.
Barber was born in Prattville, Ala., to the late Jake B. Barber and Lois Geneva Funderburk Barber. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Valdosta State University and a Masters Degree from Columbus State University.
Barber also graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Law Enforcement Command Center. He started with the Waycross Police Department in 1979 and retired as Captain in 2009. Barber received his Gold Shield in 2004. He also served in the United States Army.
Barber is survived by his cousin, Ramon Carrero of Tupelo, Miss.; his god daughter, Alana Durrance of Valdosta; close friends, Kathy Durrance of Whittier, N.C., Kim Blount of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Tera Blount Thrames (Dalton) of Savannah, and Timary Blount Thompson (Trey) of Blackshear; his beloved dog, Kathy; and numerous other cousins.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Second Baptist Church, 301 Tomberlin Road, Waycross, 31503.
