Victims of Domestic Abuse Honored by The Magnolia House

The Magnolia House Shelter for the Abused located in Waycross held an event at Plant Park Monday morning honoring the victims of domestic abuse.

First Responders from the Waycross Police Department and the Ware County Sheriff’s Department and other citizens from the Waycross community placed white flowers in the fountain to represent the lives that have been lost due to domestic violence. The colored flowers represent the victims that have worked and participated in the Magnolia House’s program.

“Our First Responders do a great job and we are so proud of them and we thank them for their hard work,” said Michelle Girtman who is the Executive Director at the Magnolia House. “Just last year we had over 3,000 survivors.”

The Magnolia House provides shelter and temporary assistance for needy families and provides shelter to 14 women and children. It has been certified as a safe shelter by the Department of Human Resources.
