FOLKSTON — Larry McMillan, 77, of Folkston, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022.
He was born on January 17, 1945, to the late Clarence McMillan and Leona Mock McMillan. Larry served as a Deacon at Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church for 45 years, Boy Scout Troop 360 volunteer for numerous years and a men’s softball league coach. He worked at Humphrey’s Mining Company in Folkston, Allied in Jacksonville, Fla., and retired from GE in Folkston.
He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed farming, yearly syrup making, fast cars and spending time with family and friends. He was a true handyman and mentor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years whom he loved dearly, Faye McMillan; three sons, Ray (Cheryl) McMillan, Lamar McMillan, and Jonathan (Dustie) McMillan; grandchildren Emma Kate McMillan, Ada and Ava McMillan, Ryan Dowling and Hunter Dowling; four great grandchildren; a brother; Amos McMillan; three sisters, Eloise (Gene) Chesser, Linda Roddenberry and Penny (Ronnie) Manning; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Thursday, October 6 at Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church. A service was held Friday, October 7 at Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Ray McMillan, Bro. Parnell Aldridge and Bro. Billy Champion officiating. Burial followed at Traders Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brent Justice, Richie McMillan, Steven Lloyd, Corey Norton, Nicholas McDowell, Zary Manning, Tim Birchall and Brent Wildes. Honorary Pallbearers were the Deacons of Philadelphia Freewill Baptist Church, Loren Lane and Jim Burkhart.
