HOBOKEN – Sylvia Carol Kelley Waters, 78 of Hoboken, passed away Monday afternoon, February 6, 2023 at her residence after an extended illness.
Born in Waycross, Mrs. Waters’ parents were the late S.D. Kelley and Carolyn Russell Kelley.
Affectionately known by her grandchildren as “Mimi”, Mrs. Waters was a caseworker for Brantley County DFACS and Satilla Community Services.
A lifetime member of Hoboken Baptist Church, she was very involved singing in the choir and encouraging others in their faith. Teaching preschool children was her passion. Not only did she love the children, she also loved their parents.
Mrs. Waters also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and going on shopping trips.
Survivors include her husband, G.C. Waters of Hoboken; a son and daughter-in-law, Rhon Carter (Vickki) of Braselton, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin Helmuth (Ray) of Hoboken and Roxie Tumlin (Curtis) of Nahunta; four step-daughters and their spouses, Cindy Hampton (Ray) of Waycross, Tammie Ragsdale of Douglas, Terri Lee of Waycross and Shonda Stipes (Steve) of Blackshear; 13 grandchildren, Barhon Carter, CJ Tumlin, Carter Helmuth, Raygen Helmuth, Dani Sutliff (Mikey), Beth Baker, Houston Holt (Alex), Cody Ragsdale (Hannah), Ryan Carter (Blake), Ashton Schuman, Brandon Waters, Joseph Maulden (Sierra), and Caleb Lee (Martina); 10 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl Stevens (Richard) of Hoboken; sisters-in-law, Tiny Thomas (Jerome) and Lawanda Westberry (Buddy); and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held Thursday morning, February 9, 2023 at Hoboken Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Glosson and Rev. Fred Anderson officiating.
Burial followed in Hoboken City Cemetery.
Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
