Riley Casper ‘Cap’ Thrift

Riley Casper “Cap” Thrift, 89, of Hoboken, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at his residence, after an extended illness.

Born in Blackshear, his parents were John Riley Thrift and Mary Mock Thrift. He was also preceded in death by his son, Glenn Alan Thrift Sr. and two brothers, Charles Thrift and Carroll Thrift.

He served in the United States Army from 1952-1955 in Germany and France during the Korean War. He worked as a plumber at the trailer plant for six years, he was a truck driver for 17 years for Statler Homes and retired at the age of 62 after six years of working as a Pipefitter. He was a member of The Philippian Church in Hoboken. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing and playing the guitar and mandolin.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Crews Thrift; four sons and daughters-in-law; James Edward Thrift (Gloria), Nahunta, David Ronald Thrift, Sr. (Ginger), Hortense, Gregg Riley Thrift (Faye), Hoboken, and Teddy Keith Thrift (Elizabeth), Nahunta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Gail Dyal, Blackshear, and Rosemary Harris (Skipper), Hoboken; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Thrift, Blackshear; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorthea Nell Hodges (Rommie), Pensacola, FL and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, at the Hoboken Cemetery.

Graveside funeral services  will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, from the Hoboken Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Glosson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Edward Thrift, Ronald Thrift, Gregg Thrift, Teddy Thrift, Skipper Harris and Chuck Thrift.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
