SGSC President

South Georgia State College is in the market for a new president.

The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents on Wednesday selected SGSC’s Ingrid Thompson-Sellers as president of Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Thompson-Sellers replaces Georj Lewis, who was named president of Clayton State University in a related announcement Wednesday by the Regents.

The two leaders will begin their new roles February 1. The Regents said it will soon announce a successor for Thompson-Sellers.

“Both Dr. Lewis and Dr. Thompson-Sellers are experienced leaders who understand the university system’s top priority is our students and their success, both on campus and in the workforce,” said Chancellor Sonny Perdue, in a written statement.

Lewis has been president of Atlanta Metro since 2019. Thompson-Sellers has overseen the operations at SGSC’s campuses in Waycross and Douglas since 2016 when she was named interim president and later the Eighth permanent president in school history after serving as senior associate dean and professor of Business Information Systems at Georgia State University.

In addition, she served in a variety of roles at Georgia Perimeter College, including interim vice president for Academic Affairs, Business Information Systems faculty, department chair, dean of business, campus dean at Newton, Decatur, Clarkston and GPC Online. Before coming to Georgia Perimeter College, she taught at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Thompson-Sellers earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from The University of the West Indies (Mona Campus, Jamaica), a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications from Iona College and a Doctoral Degree in Instructional Technology from Georgia State.

She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Southern Association of Colleges with Associate Degrees (SACAD) and Iona.
