HOBOKEN — Virginia Viola Moore Hanchey, 87, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at her residence in Hoboken, following a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure and lung cancer.
Mrs. Hanchey was the daughter of the late Jesse Moore and Lillie Griffis Moore of Hoboken. She graduated Salutatorian of the Hoboken High School Class of 1953. She was a talented seamstress and designer who owned Virginia’s Mini Mall and Virginia’s Fabrics in Hoboken. She loved sewing, crocheting, and watching TV Westerns with Virgil.
Mrs. Hanchey was preceded in death by infant triplets, Brad, Chad, and Eva Hanchey; son-in-law and daughter, Grady and Bonita Lewis; son, Jerome Hanchey; son-in-law, Charles Allen; 2 grandsons, Devin Lane and Carl Virgil Lewis; sister, Vivian Bennett; brother, Charles Daniel Moore; brother-in-law, Garnell L. Bennett; sisters-in-law, Maxine Moore and Dorothy (Snookum) Berg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Cathy Hanchey; and brothers-in-law, Gene Egge and Arlin Blair.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Virgil Edward Hanchey; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Allen, Darlene (Terry) Lane, Karen (Kelvin) Purvis; sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie (Glenda) Hanchey, Belton (Lesley) Hanchey and Kirby (Lynn) Hanchey; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Dunsmore, Samantha Allen (Doug Barnes), Chris (Nickie) Allen, Dustin (Becky) Allen, Doug (Cambi) Lane, Brad (Stephanie) Lane, Darin (Tim) Lane Reed, Christy Davis (Justin Leduc), Deanna (Nate) Gosnell, Karla (Jonathan) West, Kaylen (Josh) Gill, Jason Thrift, Caylie Hanchey Collins (Porche), Crissy Thomas (Tim), Chad (Brittany) Hanchey, LaDale Hanchey, Leighandra Hanchey (Gage Rice), Silas Baker and Evan Baker; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leann Blair, Jenny Egge, Jewel Smith, Barbara (Larry) Cogburn and Betty Moore. She is also survived by 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A graveside service was held Tuesday morning, May 16, 2023, at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ben Glosson and Rev. Chuck Allen officiating and speakers Beth Moore Holland and Diane Thornton.
Pallbearers were Brad Lane, Doug Lane, Darin Lane Reed, Gavin Lewis, Chad Hanchey, LaDale Hanchey, Charles Sears and Camron Allen.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Leonard Bennett, Mike Mercier, Jesse Trull, Danny Moore, Sabra Harris, Brenda Sapp, Joyce Griffin, Diane Thornton and her Sunday School Class.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to the Nurses and Staff of Georgia Hospice Care.
