WAYCROSS — James Robert “Jim” Shubert, Sr., 79 of Waycross died Tuesday morning, February 14, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness.
Shubert was born in Savannah, Tenn., to the late James Walt Shubert and Cynthia Rainey Vandiver. He made Waycross his home for over 50 years.
Shubert served and retired from the United States Navy after 23 years of service as an E-6. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors in the garden picking vegetables.
Shubert loved his grandchildren and spoiling them with any opportunity he had. He had a servant’s heart and always offered a lending hand to people in need. He was a member of Jordan Church in Dixie Union.
In addition to his parents, Shubert is preceded in death by four siblings, Austin “Junior” Brewer, Sammy Shubert, Ernest Shubert and Jimmy Shubert.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Shubert of Waycross; two sons, Michael Shubert and wife Barbie of Blackshear, Jimbo Shubert and wife Chanda of Waycross; two step-sons, Ronald Moody of Pearson and Randy Moody of Waycross; five grandchildren, Mikey Shubert and wife Adrienne, Hannah Shubert, Haley Shubert, Lizzie Shubert and Logan Shubert; a step-granddaughter, Danielle Nissen; four great-grandchildren, Holt White, Tinleigh Clanton, Jaxson Shubert, Aniya Chambers; step great-granddaughter, Bailey Nissen; three siblings, Barbara White, Donald Shubert wife Iris, Mable Schuy; his step-father, Melvin “Buck” Vandiver; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Saturday, February 18, 2023 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed at High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
