HICKOX — Wanda Steedley Rowell, 74 of Hickox, passed away early Sunday, February 26, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Hickox, Mrs. Rowell’s parents were George Royal Steedley and Solena Harris Steedley. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Crews; and a sister, Geneva Prescott.
Mrs. Rowell worked many years for the Georgia Department of Labor in the unemployment office and was a member of Hickox Baptist Church. She loved planting flowers, sewing and spending time with her family. Most of all Mrs. Rowell really loved taking care of her great grandbabies.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Dean Rowell, Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Dean Rowell (Angel); daughter and son-in-law, Anita Rowell Crews (Wiley), all of Hickox; five grandchildren and their spouses, Chris Crews (Angie), Taylor Dean (Drake), Colby Rowell (Laura), Morgan Rowell and Darby Rowell (Bryson); four great grandchildren, Brett Crews, Harley Crews, Braxton Graham and Deklyn Graham; brother and sister-in-law, George “Buddy” Steedley (Brenda) of Nahunta; Carolyn Prescott (Jack) of Folkston; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A funeral services was held Wednesday morning, March 1, 2023, at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Giddens officiating.
Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brett Crews, Chris Crews, Colby Rowell, Morgan Rowell, George Prescott, Tommy Steedley and Terry Steedley.
Honorary pallbearers were G.W. and Ivene Knox, Pat and Patsy Rowell, Larry and Allyson Johns, and the Deacons and Nursery Ladies of Hickox Baptist Church.
Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
