Margaret Newman “Peggy” Rose

HOBOKEN — Mrs. Margaret Newman “Peggy” Rose, 89 of Hoboken, died Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

Mrs. Rose was born in Emerson, N.J., to the late Victor Newman and Ruth Elizabeth Clark Newman.  She spent the majority of her life in New Jersey and Florida before moving to Hoboken to live with her daughter in 2019.  

Mrs. Rose was a former school librarian, bank bookkeeper, and operator for “MaBell” Telephone Company in Atlantic City, N.J.  Active in her community, she played bass drum in the local community band and taught Artex Liquid Embroidery in the 1970’s.  

Mrs. Rose was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She loved turtles, mice, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and spending time outdoors enjoying nature.  

Mrs. Rose was raised in the Methodist Church and recently attended Hoboken Baptist Church with her daughter and son-in-law.  

Along with her parents, Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, James Frederick “Jack” Rose; a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Beauvais; a son, Victor Robert “Vic” Rose; and a brother, William Newman.

She is survived by her son, Albert James “Bert” Rose and his wife, Sue, of Southport, Fla.; a daughter, Gloria “Rose” Rose-Lee and her husband, Grady, of Hoboken; seven grandchildren, Justin Floyd, Matthew Rose, Brandon Rose, Beverly Rose, Brianna Rose, Victoria Rose and Autumn Rose; one great grandchild, Hailey; plus multiple “adopted” kids from Bergen and Ocean Counties, N.J., and Lee County, Fla., and numerous other relatives.

Memorialization is by cremation.
