WAYCROSS — Mrs. Hazel Tanner Cason, 93, died Tuesday evening, April 11, 2023 at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Cason was born May 9, 1929 in Ware County to the late Rexford Tanner and Beatrice Davis Tanner. She was formerly employed by Southern Bell as a telephone operator for eight years and the Memorial Hospital in the cashier’s office and switchboard. She retired from Dr. William C. Calhoun’s office after serving as a receptionist for 12 years.
She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church since 1956, and a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cason was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Oswald “Oz” Cason to whom she was married for 65 years; her only child, Steve Randall Cason; sisters, Loyce Tanner Cason and Juanita Tanner Woodard; and brother, Alfred H. Tanner.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Sean Randall Cason (wife Audra) of Graham, Texas, and Lana Diane Cason Rogers (husband Gabe) of Waycross; three great grandchildren, Jaela Rogers-Undercuffler, Gabriella Rogers and Amber Cason; two sisters, Rexine Tanner Nesmith of Blackshear and Gloria Tanner O’Steen of Atkinson; nieces, Betty Sue Purvis (Dean), Teresa Brown (Mike), Deborah Tanner, Melanie Saxon (Michael), Nannette Dunsmore and Vicki Hitt; and nephews, Rexford Tanner (Mary), Jamey O’Steen (Julie), Jason O’Steen (Amy), Sam Hitt (Joy) and Ray Hitt.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
