Lenwood Hamilton, former director of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service, director of the former Peoples Bank and long-time community leader, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 7. He was 91.
Hamilton spent 31 years with the Soil Conservation Service and was recognized for his dedicated service. He was a long-time board member of the former Peoples Bank and was a member of the Blackshear Rotary Club for more than 50 years. He was also an avid golfer and member of both Okefenokee and Lakeview Golf Clubs. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, from the First Baptist Church.
