William Lamar “W.L.” Pittman

WAYCROSS — William Lamar “W.L.” Pittman, 90, of Waycross died Thursday night, April 6, at his residence after an extended illness.

Pittman was born in Ware County to the late James Harvey Pittman and Agnes Booth Pittman. He had made Ware County his home for his entire life.

A veteran of the United States Army, Pittman served as medic during the Korean War. Growing up he was a member of Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy, and later in life, along with his wife, joined Crossview Church of God of Prophecy. Pittman was also a member of the Frank C. Folks Masonic Lodge #192 in Waycross.

He retired from CSX Railroad where he worked as a carman. Pittman loved to fish, work in his garden, play the piano and sing. He especially loved traveling, and spending vacations with his family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lera Bryant Pittman; a brother, James Lavelle Pittman; a sister, Jeanette Clark; and a sister-in-law, Evadell Pittman.

Pittman is survived by two daughters, Lera Cynthia “Cindy” Crews and her husband Terry of Hoboken and Cheryl Anna Hambrick of Waycross; four grandchildren, Richard Anthony Hambrick, Jr., (Victoria), Anna Marie Smith and her husband Mike, Candice Cynthia King and her husband Brandon, and John Lamar Crews and his wife Stacy; six grandchildren, Summer Hambrick, Matthew Davis, Cameron Hambrick, Mason Hambrick, Emily Taylor and her fiancé J.P. Manning, and Sam King; three step-grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Brody Rowell and Wyatt Sears; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 11 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial followed in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
