Nahunta Swat

A Nahunta man was arrested Sunday on assault charges after it was learned he had beaten a man and threatened a confrontation with law enforcement officers.

At the end of the approximately six-hour siege December 18, Stephen Jerome Bragg, 52, of 237 RS Circle in Nahunta, was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Brantley County jail.

Brantley County Sheriff Len Davis said Bragg was charged with Aggravated Assault.

The BCSO received a call about the assault at approximately 8:35 a.m., Davis said.

“When deputies made contact with the victim, it was discovered the assault occurred at 237 RS Circle in Nahunta,” Davis said. “The victim had been beaten with some type of wooden stick. He was taken to the hospital in Brunswick by Brantley EMS ambulance.”

The sheriff said a witness and the victim identified the offender as Bragg.

“The deputies were made aware the offender had made threats that if law enforcement was contacted he would not be going back to jail and that court would be held in the street,” said Davis. “The officers were informed there were multiple firearms inside the residence.”

Based on all the information, Glynn County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team, along with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team were notified and both responded.

“Both SWAT teams, along with Brantley County deputies and investigators went to Bragg’s residence,” said the sheriff. “Bragg was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Brantley County jail where he remains under lock and key.”

Davis said he is grateful the incident was resolved without further violence or anyone else getting hurt.

“I want to thank Glynn County and Camden County SWAT teams for responding and for their assistance,” said Davis.

Bragg was taken into custody about 2 p.m., Sunday. Bond has been denied for his release.

Davis said further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
