The Lady Bears clinched a play-off berth and were to play in Thomson in the state regionals Tuesday (after The Times’ deadline).
The Lady Bears punched their ticket to the play-offs with a win over Tattnall County Oct. 6.
Victory was the name of the game for the Lady Bears softball team last week, with three wins and a neck and neck face-off against Brantley county.
Last Wednesday (Oct. 13) brought a 2-0 win over Glynn Academy.
Coach Tyler Rogers attributed the win to strong defense and pitching, with only three hits from the Lady Bears during the game.
Senior players were also recognized at the game: #3 Natalie Sullivan, #8 Kylie Allen, #13 Rebecca Deloach, #14 LizAnn Hughes, #24 Reagan Larson and #34 Kadence Godwin.
Two days prior (Oct. 11) the Lady Bears pulled a 3-2 region victory against Toombs.
Lauren Edgar, Carley Sloan and Taylor Tomlinson all competed in the circle with Taylor receiving her first varsity win in relief.
Deloach hit a homerun and Larson had a huge run batted in (RBI) double in the sixth inning.
Unfortunately, the team fell behind in another game the same night against Brantley, losing 5-4.
The Lady Bears won 12-7 after a close back and forth battle against Tattnall (Oct. 6).
Godwin came in with the win in the circle. The Lady Bears had seven innings pitched (IP), four strikeouts (K’s), one base on balls (BB) and three earned runs (ER).
Godwin and Bella Delaney led the Lady Bears’ offense with four hits each. Overall, the team scored 13 hits.
Coach Rogers reported that the Tattnall game was an important win for the team because it clinched them a play-off spot.
“(As a result) we were able to play some younger girls and move some people around this week versus Toombs and Brantley,” Rogers said. “I am so proud of this groups of girls, especially these seniors. Now it’s time for playoff softball! Thomson here we come! Go Bears!”
