PCHS Bear Facts

Welcome back to PCHS Bear Facts! From the halls of Pierce County High School, here is our list of hot topics for the week spanning October 5-11, 2022.

National Custodian Day was this past Sunday, so let’s pause now to recognize our custodians at PCHS who work so diligently to maintain a healthy and clean learning environment: Brenda Carter, Tinesha Hill, Carrie Jackson, Robert Jewell, Jeffery Moody, Helen Roberson, Raymond Pate, and Libby Thomas. Thank you all for helping ensure Excellence as the standard every day! 

Congratulations to the following students for receiving their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Excel 2019: Joseph Flynn, John Michael Sapp, Harlee Costa, Eric Merida, and Nicolas Whitley. The instructor is Mrs. Lauren Whitaker.

Swim team tryouts are scheduled for today (Wednesday, October 5) from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the YMCA. Last year’s swimmers will not need to try out, but will need an updated physical. All swimmers must have a current physical on file. The first swim practice for everyone will be Wednesday, October 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30.

This Thursday, October 6, a representative will be on campus to take orders for letter jackets during all three lunches. There is a special in-school deposit of only $100. You can also order online at www.gradnow.com. For more information, you can also email [email protected] or call 912-764-9314.

Fall break is October 7-11. Students will not attend classes this Friday. It is a work day only for teachers. Faculty and staff will be off Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11. There also is no varsity football game this Friday as it is the scheduled open date for the Bears.

FFA Day for this year’s Okefenokee Fair will be this coming Tuesday, October 11. The cost is $15 to purchase a walk-around pass, and $25 more for a wristband for rides. See Mr. Prescott to pay your registration fee.

The first 9 Weeks ends on Friday, October 14. Students, please remember to watch your tardies to school. The first, second, and third tardies are warnings. The fourth tardy results in lunch detention and the fifth and beyond result in one day of ISS for each instance.

Also on Oct 14, 2022 PCHS will be giving the ASVAB test. This is the aptitude test for the U.S. Military. All 11th and 12th graders who want to take the tests need to see Mr. Tommy Doss as soon as possible.

Make-up day for Driver’s Ed classes that were canceled this past Saturday (due to the hurricane) will be Saturday, October 22. See Mr. Erik Thumann for more information.

Wrestling pre-season workouts are now underway on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 until 5 p.m. after school. Regular wrestling practice begins Oct. 24.

Basketball tryouts for boys and girls will be Monday, October 24 after school in the gym.

The dental bus will be coming to campus on Tuesday, November 8. Please mark your calendars accordingly.

Pierce County Schools are now using Parent Square as the preferred communication tool. Get plugged in today. Sign up at parentsquare.com or download the app. You can also customize your notifications in Parent Square as follows: (1) Click your name in the top right, (2) Choose “My Account”, (3) Choose “Notification” settings on the left, (4) Choose “Instant, Digest” (for once a day).

Remember to pay your class dues according to the following rate schedule: 9th grade ($5.00), $10th grade ($10.00), 11th grade ($25.00), and 12th grade ($20.00). See Mrs. Dreama Leggett to pay your dues.

Former players and coaches, we need your input! Pierce County High School is celebrating more than 40 years of achievement with a compilation of all titles won since the 1981 consolidation. If you have letter jackets, news articles, trophies, etc. that list specific team titles, please send photos of these items to: [email protected].

Students who are interested in competing in this year’s Georgia Student Technology Competition (aka “Tech Fair”), please see Mr. John DuPont ASAP.

 The school store - “Grizzly Gear” - which is also now open each day during all three lunches. See Grizzly Gear for the newest Bear Wear and more. Beta Club and FBLA students, see Mrs. Whitaker if you wish to earn community service hours by working in the school store.

FBLA collects pop tabs all year long to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Please support this cause. You can turn in your tabs to Mrs. Whitaker in room 348.

FCA meets every Thursday morning at 7:45 in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring a friend. It’s a great way to start your day

The PBIS word for this month is “Communication” and, as always, be responsible, respectful, and safe.
