CALLAHAN, Fla. — Mr. Robert Terrell Simmons, 72, of Callahan, Fla., died early Monday morning, October 24, 2022, at his residence after an extended illness.
Simmons was born in Homerville, to the late R.T. Simmons and Matilda Sweat Simmons Burney. he had made Jacksonville, Fla. and Callahan his home for the majority of his life.
Simmons worked as a supervisor for Valero Oil Company in Jacksonville, and attended Hilliard Pentecostal Full Gospel Church. He loved to hunt and fish. More than anything he loved his family and any time he was able to spend with them, especially his children and grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Simmons was preceded in death by his stepfather, Harris Burney; his stepmother, Ann Simmons; his son, Raymond Lee Simmons II; four brothers, Raymond Lee Simmons, J.J. Simmons, Donny Burney, Wayne Burney; and one sister, Janice Burney Pittman.
Simmons is survived by his wife, Jessie Mae Thompson Simmons of Callahan; three sons, Jason Lee Simmons and his wife, Lisa, of Callahan, Robert Terrell Simmons, Jr., and his wife, Mandy, of Hilliard, and Robert Bryan Simmons of Colorado; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Ann Dell of Manor, Aline Johns of Nichols, Gloria Oliver of Hoboken, Louise Hall of Blackshear, Shirley Ann Wright of Eustis, Fla.; five brothers, James Robert Simmons, Robert Warren Simmons, David Michael Simmons, James Burney and Sonny Burney; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, October 26 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in New Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery in Manor.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m.
