Mr. Joseph (Joe) Foster Sapp, Jr., 69, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at the Hospice House Satilla following a short illness.
He was a native of Brantley County, but spent most of his life living in Waycross. He retired from CSX as a foreman after 43 years of service. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, one O/S Bar, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Sapp’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He had a love for being outdoors and was known for his love of riding his motorcycles, kayaking and being on the water. Sapp had a huge passion for music and dancing, and he entered and won many dance contest in the coastal areas around Brunswick over the years. He was also known for having a kind heart, being a friend to everyone he knew, being quick witted and he loved to joke around with his family and friends.
He was the son of the late Joseph “Son Sapp” Foster Sapp, Sr. and the late Louise Elizabeth Lott Sapp. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Brian Sapp and Chris Clark; a granddaughter, Savannah Curry; four sisters, Lawanna Buie, Carol Ann Rowland, Bonnie Sapp, and Peggy Beese; a brother, Tommy Sapp and brother in law, Ray Moody.
He is survived by his children, Angel Curry of Waycross, Suzanne Dmetreschen of Germany; Jason Hill of Waycross, Jenna Sapp of Waynesville, Mandy Strickland of Patterson, and Ren Sapp of Waycross; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Sapp of Waycross; three sisters, Carolyn Moody of Brunswick, Annette Glenn of Waycross, and Kathy Roberts of Mississippi; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization was by cremation. A graveside service was held Tuesday morning, November 15, 2022, at Greenlawn Cemetery.
