NAHUNTA — “We absolutely must not allow Stacey Abrams to be elected!”
That was the bottom line of the message delivered by Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Thursday, October 27 when he visited supporters in Nahunta during a final swing through southeast Georgia prior to the November 8 general election.
Kemp is being challenged by Abrams, a Democrat, who lost her bid for the governor’s seat to Kemp in the last statewide election.
The governor was welcomed with cheers, applause and plenty of support as he talked with friends and supporters for about an hour.
Kemp thanked his supporters in the small town including Sheriff Len Davis, an early supporter, and former Probate Judge Johnnie Crews, whom he called “a great servant.”
“We’re going to make sure that Abrams is not the governor,” Kemp told the crowd. “We have said ‘NO’ to her agenda. This campaign is about putting you first. We have been fighting for you.”
He noted that families are worried about keeping a roof over their heads and that he knows the bad feeling of not knowing if life would continue as it is for the next week.
Of the COVI-19 issue, Kemp said the Democrats and others were following the science alright, “but it was political science. We passed legislation to keep local governments from defunding the police. We stand by our men and women in law enforcement. I am focused on you.”
Kemp pointed out that Abrams has supported the Biden agenda including the 40-year high inflation rate as Americans live from week to week.
“We passed the largest income tax cut in the state’s history and suspended the gas tax,” said Kemp, adding that the Biden energy programs have been disastrous for America.
“We must beat Abrams,” the governor said. I need you to vote Brian Kemp. We had another record year and we are going to send some back to you. We have got to get out the vote. I will be working the next 12 days and I need you to help get people to vote. God bless you!”
Kemp was accompanied by his wife, Marty.
Also on hand to support the governor were State Rep. Steven Meeks of Jesup, and State Rep. John Corbett of Echols County, both of whom represent a portion of Ware and Brantley counties.
“This is the most pivotal election of our lifetime and it is a fight for the soul of our state,” said Meeks as he introduced Kemp. “Kemp understands our way of life because it is his way of life and our values are his values. He has done exactly what he said he would do.
“He supported a historic pay raise for teachers and has cut taxes. We are the number one state in the union for doing business and are the envy of states around us. He has made the right decisions .... every .... single .... time! We want what’s best for Georgia.”
