Hubert A. Hobbs, Jr.

WAYCROSS — Mr. Hubert A.Hobbs, Jr., 92, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at his residence.

He was born in Atlanta, but lived most of his life in Waycross. He retired from CSX after 43 years as an electrician and he founded and owned Waycross Electric and Hobbs Electric. He also held one of the first master electrician licenses in Georgia.

He served in the United States Navy and also flew search and recovery missions for the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and former Sunday School teacher.

He was the son of the late Hubert Angus Hobbs, Sr. and Myrtice Gordan Summerlin Hobbs Duncan. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Wyatt Hobbs of Waycross; three daughters, Deborah Hobbs Clark (Les) of Alamo, Ga., Judy Hobbs Meeks of Statesboro, and Holly Hobbs Thompson (Randy) of Jesup; two sons, Hubert A. Hobbs III (Bobbie) of Brunswick, and Mark T. Hobbs of Waycross; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 19 at Jamestown Baptist Church. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service at the church.
