The death of Dawn Angela “Angel” McCarty, who was reported missing in 2009, is still a mystery nearly 13 years later.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, McCarty’s death was ruled a homicide. The circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery with details about what really happened to her never coming to light.
It is now a Cold Case.
The GBI’s Region 14 Field Office and the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office investigated her disappearance of Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
Reports indicate 36-year-old McCarty left her Brantley County home around 6 p.m. It was not unusual for McCarty to be gone from her residence for several days.
She was reported missing September 29, 2009. No solid leads were ever established as to McCarty’s whereabouts.
Human remains were located in a wooded area off Highway 110 in Brantley County July 30, 2013, nearly four years later. The remains were eventually identified as McCarty’s.
GBI officials said McCarty’s death has been ruled a homicide due to “the suspicious details surrounding her disappearance and the location of where McCarty’s remains were recovered.”
Questions still remain: How did McCarty die? and Who is responsible for killing her?
