BCMS Cross Country

COCHRAN — Brantley County Middle School’s cross-country teams wrapped up their seasonn here Saturday running in the Georgia Middle School State Cross-Country Championships hosted by Bleckley County Middle School.

The Lady Herons placed third in the 16-team Division 1 championship with the Herons claiming the runner-up spot in the 21-team boys’ event.

Host Bleckley County Middle School captured the girls’ meet scoring 72 points. Following the Lady Royals were Bremen Middle School (100), BCMS (151), GMC Middle School (168), Telfair County Middle School (176), Wilcox County Middle School (189), Oglethorpe County Middle School (190), Heard County Middle School (220), Washington-Wilkes Middle School (234), Lake Oconee Academy (252), MacIntyre Park Middle School (254), ACE Charter Middle School (269), Amana Academy (270), Marion County Middle School (303), Pelham Middle School (321) and William James Middle School (351).

Bleckley Middle made it a clean sweep running away with the boys’ title after scoring 34 points. Following the Royals were Brantley Middle (138), MacIntyre Park (142), Armuchee Middle School (167), Bremen (189), ACE Charter (201), Lake Oconee Academy (209), Social Circle Middle School (230), Johnson County Middle School (243), Oglethorpe County (277), GMC (294), Telfair County (307), Bryan County Middle School (321), Washington-Wilkes (330), Aaron Cohn Middle School (358), William James (389), Amana Academy (391), Marion County (401), East Laurens Middle school (446), Heard County (486), and Pelham (491).

Girls’ meet

Brantley Middle was one of three teams to place two runners in the Top 11 spots joining Bleckley Middle and Heard Middle.

Eighth-grader Kiara Barnes paced the Lady Herons finishing seventh in the field of 115 runners posting a time of 14:50.88. The winning time was 12:37.25.

Barnes was followed by sixth-grader Jaylin Evans (11th; 15:09.22), sixth-grader Peytin Rentz (51st; 17:42.74), sixth-grader Emerson Payne (52nd; 17:47.43), sixth-grader Elayna Box (56th; 17:55.12), sixth-grader Peyton McMillian (67th; 18:38.61), and sixth-grader Maria Snyder (99th; 22:13.48).

Boys’ meet

Bleckley Middle claimed three of the top four spots and had all five runners finish in the Top 20.

Brantley Middle eighth-grader Jesus Rios logged a fifth-place finish clocking a time of 12:33.19 in the field of 148 runners. The winning time was 11:46.78.

Trailing Rios were eighth-grader Max Herrin (20th; 13:37.32), eighth-grader Clark Carter (42nd; 14:25.34), sixth-grader Chase Howell (43rd; 14:26.83), seventh-grader Brooks Anderson (46th; 14:30.29), sixth-grader Carter Lentz (78th; 15:56.50), and seventh-grader Keller Stringer (88th; 16:12.61).
