David Earl Griner

David Earl Griner, 84, of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, February 16, 2024, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.

Born in Blackshear June 24, 1939, he lived in Covington, LA prior to moving back to Pierce County in 1982.  He was a 1957 graduate of Patterson High School.  Following his high school graduation, he worked for Patterson Milling for a short time prior to being drafted into the US Army. His military career had him serving in Japan, Vietnam and Germany before retiring in 1982.  He would go on to work for General Box Company, T. C. Industries and lastly with Wal-Mart in their paint department.  He loved to read, go bowling, fishing, hunting for quail and dove and watching all sports.  He was a member and deacon at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.

He was a son of the late John Joseph and Grace I. Dixon Griner.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph N. “Pat” Griner and John Lester “Dunk” Griner; four brothers-in-law, Robert Lee, Omer “Buddy” Sapp, Donald Sapp and Barney Sapp and two sisters-in-law, Juanita Dixon and Mary Alice Sapp.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean Sapp Griner, Blackshear; two sisters, Gracie Griner Lee and Peggy Griner Duval, both of Blackshear; a brother, Jerome (Ludell) Griner, Patterson; four sisters-in-law, Helga Griner, Eatonton, Kathy Griner Dunn, Midway, Waunell Hickox, Hoboken and Joyce Faulk, Blackshear; a brother-in-law, D. R. (Linda) Sapp, Blackshear and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Willis Lee officiating.

Interment will be in the Enon Cemetery with full military honors.
