Marie Joyce Turk, 94, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday night, February 25, 2024, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.
Born August 10, 1929, in Homerville, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Pearl Dame Joyce. She grew up in Pierce County, moved to New Jersey in 1946, and upon her husband’s retirement, she returned to Pierce County in the early 1980s. She was a longtime housewife and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waycross.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Edward Ernest Turk; a son, Gary Turk; three sisters, Mavis Mobley, Vera May Jeffords and Olivia Cason and two brothers, Alonzo Joyce Jr. and Reaver Joyce.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Eric Turk, Townsend, Montana; a daughter-in-law, Gail Turk, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; two grandsons, Michael Turk of California and Joseph Turk, Virginia Beach, VA; two great -granddaughters, Sophie Turk and Zoey Turk and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorialization will be by cremation. Inurnment will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a future date.
