Thomas Lawton Wright, 81, of Blackshear, passed away Friday afternoon, February 16, 2024, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
Born in Mershon February 8, 1943, he lived in Pierce County most of his life. He was a 1961 graduate of Patterson High School and went on to retire from CSX Transportation in 1993 as a machinist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, feeding the birds and gardening/yard work but he loved being able to share his hobbies with his grandchildren. He was a member and deacon at Bristol Baptist.
He was a son of the late Herbert Thomas and Faye Dixon Wright. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Callie Dean.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean Davis Wright, Blackshear; three daughters, Paula Dean and Amy (Buddy) Knowlton, all of Blackshear and Marilyn (Richard) Johnson, Screven; a son, Chris (Jennifer) Wright, Blackshear; two sisters, Jan Martin, Blackshear and Cecelia (Tommy) Herrin, Thomasville; a brother, Gene (Robin) Wright, Cypress, TX; nine grandchildren, Blake, Blaire (Josh), Haley, Mallory (Brandon), Gunnar (MacKenzie), Mary Elizabeth (fiancé, Zerek), Ambree, John Thomas and Lawton; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, from the Bristol Baptist Church with the Rev. Brett Howell officiating.
Interment will be in the Bristol Cemetery.
