The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently investigating an incident that occurred Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Pierce County Jail.
According to a press release from the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Ethan Taylor, 21, died in custody at the jail Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023. Pierce County Deputy Coroner Wesley Howard said Taylor was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30.
Sheriff Bennett declined comment about the case and referred all questions to the GBI's Douglas office. Efforts to reach the GBI were unsuccessful due to the New Year's holiday.
