A proposed expansion at Stewart Distribution in Blackshear could bring up to 35 new jobs and $2.1 million in investments.
Stewart Distribution is a convenience store distributor serving Georgia and Florida. The company currently houses over 11,000 items at its operation on Bonneyman Road in Blackshear.
The county commission recently approved tax abatements for Stewart Distribution.
The company will receive a tax abatement on a new 41,538 square foot expansion.
The abatement will be for 15 years and based on the current assessment the company will receive about $145,000 in tax relief over that period.
The company will continue to pay taxes on its current plant.
The tax relief is part of economic development inducements recommended by Matt Carter, director of the Pierce County Industrial Development and Building Authority (IDBA). The tax assessors and the IDBA have reviewed and signed off on the abatement request.
The company would not owe any real estate property tax in its first year, but the taxable amount would increase in increments of 6.67 percent each year until the end of the term. The first part is correct.
The project is expected to be completed by end of year 2022.”
