Mary Adeline Thornton O’Banion

Mary Adeline Thornton O’Banion, 90, of Offerman, passed away late early Sunday morning, January 7, 2024, at her residence.

Born in Offerman, October 2, 1933, she lived in Hollywood, FL for a while before moving back to Offerman several years ago.

She, along with her husband, owned a chicken house for years raising chickens for market before going to work at the Pierce County Nursing Home, where she retired after 30 years. She worked as a volunteer for Ombudsman where she helped inspect nursing homes after her retirement. She loved to write having written many Christian songs as well as many diaries.  She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a great prayer warrior.  She loved calling and checking on family and friends to make sure they were okay and always ended the call by saying, “I love you”.

She was a daughter of the late Simon Winfield Thornton and Magnola King Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Terry Hugh  “Tex” O’Banion; her son, Maurice Tex O’Banion; a daughter, Diane Lee O’Banion Head; all three of her sisters, Lola Grace Draffin, Nola Mae Tyre and Evonne Gurganus; and all three of her brothers, Rufus S. “Shorty” Thornton, Thomas E. “Tom” Thornton and Winfield “Fee” Thornton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Gail and Deryl Ammons, Offerman; a daughter-in-law, Barbara O’Banion, Offerman; a son-in-law, Rick (Sandy) Head, Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Regina Ammons Gay (Bobby), Eric O’Banion, Michael O’Banion (Chessica), Terry O’Banion (Sarah), Sarah O’Banion Chancey (Michael), Chris Bond (Christy), Kia Bond and EJ Head (Lora); 13 great-grandchildren, Chyan Blankenship, Quinton Rosa, Chrissie Adeline O’Banion, Mariana O’Banion Daniels (Snapper), Mikell Bond, Lucy Bond, Caitlyn O’Brien, M. J. White, Amari White, Rylee Head, Greyson Head, Ryker Head and Andrew Davis; a great-great-grandchild, Colbi Rae Daniels and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives all of whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in the Offerman Cemetery.
