James Robert “PeeWee” Keene, 77, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at home, under the care of Your Family Hospice. He was surrounded by his loving family.
A resident of Jesup for the past several years and former resident of Blackshear for most of his life, he was born December 23, 1946 in Waverly, to the late Osgood and Inez King Keene. He worked for the road department in Camden County for most of his life and enjoyed raising cows, hog hunting and spending time with his family and friends when he wasn’t working. In addition to his parents, his wife, Vernie Sue Keene; son, Robert Spradley and siblings, Barbara Keene Spradley, Franklin Keene and Margaret Richardson, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his five children, Rebecca Barnett and husband, Frankie, Blackshear, Amanda Grover and husband, Seymour, Browntown, John Keene, Jesup, Gerald Keene, Blackshear and Daniel Keene and wife, Tonya, Camden County; two sisters, Hilda Belanger, Atkinson and Linda Smith and husband, Wayne, Blackshear; one brother, Roy Keene and wife, Pauline, Waverly and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Private memorial services will be held.
