Roswald Edgar King

Roswald Edgar King was called to eternal rest Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Born in Blackshear, GA, January 1, 1935, to Giles William and Jeannette Evelyn Howard King, he was the second of seven children.

He graduated from Lee Street High School in 1953 and attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State College majoring in engineering. He left college to enter the United States Air Force where he served many years and where he honed his gift of repairing engines of all types. He received a degree in electrical construction and maintenance from Atlanta Area Technical School (now Atlanta Technical College) and was schooled in the art of carpentry by his father, Giles King.

After leaving the Air Force, he used his skill and knowledge as an electrical contractor, plumber, heating and air conditioning specialist and carpenter at Memorial Hospital, Savannah, the Shoney’s Corporation and Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport (now Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport). Later he operated his own company, Son King Electrical, in Ellenwood.

He was baptized at the Zion Baptist Church in Blackshear. Later, he united with the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church in Baxley.  He was preceded in death by his daughters, Debra King and Rosalyn Collette King; his son, the Rev. Stanley Surrency and his brothers, William Jiles King, Tilton Christopher King Sr. and  Jerry King.

Survivors include his faithful and loving wife of 45 years, Alberta Ellis King; his mother-in-love, Marie Ellis; his brother Calvin Foster King (Lois Dianne); his sisters, Sara King Rushin and Charlotte King Eady (Isreal); his daughter, Kimberly King Bellamy; his son, Reginald King; his sister-in-love, Bernice King; his bonus daughters, CaTonya Sellers (Earl) and Romanita S. Bennamon; faithful caregivers, Bradley and Della Williams and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special and loving friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 6, from the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church in Appling County with the Rev. Dr. Kendall Bennamon presiding over the ceremony.

Interment will be in the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

A repast will be held in the church fellowship hall following the interment.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Sellers, Bradley Williams, Shane Mobley, James Surrency, John Dent and Shawn Mobley.  

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Rachel Missionary Baptist Church, Regency Southern Care and Always Caring Home Care Agencies.

Flower attendants will be the Angels with Care Nursing Agency.

C.M. Brown Funeral Home, Baxley is in charge of arrangements.
