James Melvin Denison

James Melvin Denison, 79, of Offerman, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his residence.

Born in Screven October 28, 1944, he lived in Offerman most of his life. He had been a drill sergeant in the U.S. Army.  Once out of the Army, he went into farming, then later went into construction working for Marvin Gill Construction before retiring due to his health. His favorite pastime was fishing and he was of the Pentecostal faith.

He was a son of the late Melvin Lester and Carrie Thornton Denison. He was preceded in death by a son, Tom Denison; a grandson, Melvin Lester Denison Jr.; his sister, Judy Denison; a brother, Thomas Denison and a sister-in-law, Juanita Knowles.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Rhodes Denison,Offerman; four daughters, Carrie (Brett) Carter, Mershon, April Griffin, Waycross and Tina Denison and Linda Denison, both of South Carolina; two sons, Jamie (Veronica) Denison, Odum and Lester Denison, Screven; a brother and sister-in-law, Ellis and Brenda Denison, Offerman; two brothers-in-law, David (Debbie) Rhodes, Offerman and Daniel Rhodes, Patterson; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the Foster Cemetery.
