Norene Smith Bowen, 79, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2024, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, following an extended illness.
Born May 2, 1945, in Alma, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Smith and Catherene “Sid” Holland Smith Martin. She lived all her life in Ware and Pierce Counties and was a 1963 graduate of Waycross High School. She worked for 25 years in the business office of Satilla Regional Medical Center and then was the owner of Oak Plaza Restaurant in Blackshear.
She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mitchell Bowen.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Cheshire, Atlanta; son, Leslie Cheshire, Atlanta; three grandchildren, Jay Cheshire, Waycross, Zoe Cheshire, Sparks and Seth Cheshire, Waycross; a sister, Nova Jean Theriault, Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Elder Jason Deal officiating.
Interment will follow in the Waters Cemetery.
