Jeannine Clark Mattox McFadyen, 81, of Mershon, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 3, 2024, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear March 10, 1942, she had lived in Pierce County all her life. She was a 1960 graduate of Blackshear High School. She helped run Mattox Grocery with her former husband for many years but had also worked for Farmers & Builders, the Oak Plaza Restaurant and Pierce Transit where she was a driver. In her spare time, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, feeding the birds (she especially loved the hummingbirds), tending to their horses, and loving on her dog, Sugar. For many years, she sang at weddings and funerals as well as sang with different trios and quartets. Always a people-person, she never met a stranger and truly had a gift for interacting with children. She loved to laugh and she was considered “the funny sister” among her siblings. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of Bristol Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Everlean Spradley Clark. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stan Mattox; a daughter, Connie Marie Randall and a sister, Alice Mullis.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Ian G. McFadyen, Mershon; two sons, Sands (Wendy) Mattox, Waycross and Clark Mattox, Blackshear; a daughter-in-law, Kim Mattox, Waycross; two sisters, Ruth Beezley, Statesboro and Bobbie Howard, Blackshear; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Nell Clark, Blackshear; 11 grandchildren, Caleb (Marty) Mattox, Waynesville, NC, Whitney (Kennith) Bennett, Clyo, Brandon Mancil, Patterson, Josie-Tatum Mattox, Macon, Ellie Mattox, Milledgeville and Drew Mattox, Zeke Mattox and Carter Mattox, all of Blackshear, Samantha Strickland, Pooler and Spencer Randall and Trey Randall, both of Chicago; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the funeral home.
Funeral services for will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. C. James officiating.
Interment will be in the Beulah Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that members of the Blackshear High School Class of 1960 serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to please meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
