Una Vee Thornton Courson

Una Vee Thornton Courson, 89, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2024, at Harborview Health Systems–Pierce County in Blackshear, following an extended illness.

Born October 8, 1934, in K’ville, she was a daughter of the late Dalton Albert and Alice Jewel Thornton. She grew up in Wayne County and lived most of her life in Pierce and Ware Counties and was retired as a seamstress for Julie Hat Company in Patterson. She was a longtime member of Offerman Baptist Church but had attended Jordan Church with her daughter for the past several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Courson; two daughters, Anita Courson and Barbara Bullard; three sisters, Vera May Thornton Johnson, Onie Thornton and Winnie Thornton Youmans and three brothers, Owen Thornton, Quinton Thornton and Flem Thornton. She was joined in death by her son-in-law, Dannie Spivey, who passed away Friday, March 15.

Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Gale Spivey, Waycross; a son-in-law, Garry Bullard Sr., Patterson; six grandchildren, Sandra Youmans Roberts (husband Lester), Blackshear, Michelle Bullard Cason, Jacksonville, FL, Garry Bullard Jr. (wife Shannon), Patterson, Blake Spivey (wife Sabrina), and Shana Spivey Harper (husband Clay), all of Douglas, and Leah Spivey Lee (husband Chris), Vidalia; 12 great-grandchildren, Anna Gail Roberts, Johnathan Bullard, Brittney Bullard, Nicholas Bullard, Destiny (Joe) Prince, Simon Sheys, Elyse Spivey, Laurel Spivey, Deacon Harper, Zoe (Adrian) Lopez, Ragan Watkins and Ansleigh Barrett; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Janie Johnson, Blackshear; a brother and sister-in-law, Winton and Wilma Thornton, Blackshear; special friends, Erica Fales, Jennifer Crews, and Christy and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with the Rev. James Lightsey officiating.

Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff of Harborview Health Systems – Pierce County for their love and care provided to Mrs. Una Vee during her time residing there.
