Charles Lewis Kirkland, 87, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born November 27, 1936 in Bristol, he was a son of the late Nathaniel Preston Kirkland Sr. and Ida Marie Joyner Kirkland. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and had served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Greece. He had worked many years at Prim’s Men Shop in Waycross and at Wall’s IGA in Blackshear for 22 years, before retiring in February 2023. He was a longtime member of the Blackshear Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Nathaniel Preston “Jr.” Kirkland Jr., Willie Edgar “Bill” Kirkland, Betty Lois Kirkland Wynn and James Albert Kirkland.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Ruby Lee “Peggy” Milton Kirkland, Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, from the Blackshear City Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Grissom officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
