Linnie Sue Carter Kicklighter, 85, a faithful and devoted Christian, passed peacefully Friday March 1, 2024, at Harborview in Blackshear, after a brief illness.
She was born in Nicholls, July 31,1938, completing a loving family of six daughters of the late Wilmer Clyde and Estell Tanner Carter. She was preceded in death by her five sisters (Wilma Jordan, Marie Lee Pritchard, Marion Thomas, June Roble Carter and Betty Stewart) and she was joyously greeted by them when she entered Heaven’s gates.
She found the love of her life in Carroll Clark Kicklighter, who preceded her in death in 2020, and they resided in Blackshear from the 1960s on. Together they raised their daughter Lina and enjoyed all the joys of parenthood. She took care of the home and perfected her love of vegetable gardening. Anyone who stopped by reaped the benefits of her labor by a tour of the garden and samples of fresh vegetables.
She also found time to join the Women’s Auxiliary of the Waycross American Legion and participated in many community events. She had a love of genealogy and became the family historian tracking down family lines. The entire family is grateful for her dedication in this endeavor. From learning the family genealogy, she became a member of the Daughters’ of the American Revolution. Sue also helped her mother-in-law, Lena H. Kicklighter, with her catering business. She enjoyed her time of celebrating and coordinating events for numerous families throughout the years. Carroll and Sue also had a commercial shrimping boat and spent time on the water where she loved life even though she couldn’t swim. She enjoyed cooking for the crew and Fridays were always fish Friday whether they were on the water or the land.
A devoted member of Ward Memorial Church in Blackshear, she was nurtured by her faithful and much-loved church family. She was strong willed at times but also had an enormous heart and would always be there for not only her family in their hour of need but also friends. She loved to dance in her younger years and was known for saying, “Let’s go cut a rug!” and would joyfully show off her dance skills. Today, she is “cutting’ a rug” in Heaven.
She leaves behind her daughter and son-in- law, Lina and Ralph G. Wetherington, Castalian Springs, TN; two grandchildren, L. Suzanne (Wm Bart) Highers and Kyler C. (Ann Marie) Wetherington, four great-grandchildren, Lilia S. Highers, Lucillia S. Highers, Estella L. Wetherington, and G. Banks Wetherington and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews whom she loved immensely and many faithful friends.
A celebration of life including a fish fry will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Ward Memorial Church in Blackshear.
