Norma Ruth McCutchen Johnson

Norma Ruth McCutchen Johnson, 89, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, June 25, 2024, at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta, following an extended illness.

Born April 14, 1935, in Waycross, she was the daughter of the late LeGree and Annie Barnard McCutchen. She lived most of her life in Ware and Pierce Counties and was a 1954 graduate of Wacona High School. She was a long-time homemaker and enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening and cooking good southern food.

She loved her husband, Buster, her family, teaching Sunday school and helping to organize getting the food for funerals at Brunel Street Church of God.

During her later years, she began battling dementia, but kept her same smile, love and joy with her family. She entertained them by telling funny stories and tales that made them wonder how she thought of such.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Thomas M. “Buster” Johnson Jr.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elton and Connie McCutchen and Everette and Yuriko McCutchen.

Survivors include her two children, Adrian Jeffery Johnson, Callahan, FL and Tammy Johnson Thomas (husband Jeff), Nahunta; two granddaughters, Kristen Thomas (husband John) and Magan Thomas Barnhill (husband George), both of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Eliza and Gannon Thomas, and Magnolia, Rose, and George Griffin Barnhill; sister, Mary Murray, Waycross and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11 a.m. Friday, June 28, at the graveside at Waters Cemetery.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, from the Waters Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Carter officiating.

The staff of Bayview Nursing Home are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Sympathy may be expressed by signing online at www.hartfh.com.
