Michael ‘Mike’ Fatula

Michael Fatula, 76, of Columbus, NC passed away Monday, May 6, 2024.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Agnes Rakuski Fatula and was a manager at High Grade Beverage in New Jersey.

Following early retirement, he moved to St. Marys. He relished activity and became an insurance agent on St. Simons Island and then worked at Laurel Island Golf Club managing player activities, which was one of his favorite jobs.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and traveling. He was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast and excellent cook.

He loved living by the water and traded the St. Marys River for Lake Lanier, SC. He loved his boat and two dogs, Casey and Stan.

Savoring every moment of his life, he never met a stranger, and was loved wherever he went.  He will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Stephen M. Waters Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Waters Fatula; stepson, Joey (Ciara) Lee Jr.; grandson, Ramsey Lee; god-son, Max Mazewski; sister, Barbara (Jim) Dunn; mother-in-law, Marilyn Clough Waters; sister-in-law, Melanie Waters and one niece, Mari Claire Sikes.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, from the Briarwood Baptist Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Eric Rentz and the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarwood Baptist Church, P.O. Box 363, Blackshear, GA 31516.
