Alice Lurline Broome Jeffers, 65, of Waycross, passed away Sunday evening, June 23, 2024, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born November 5, 1958 in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Dean Carl Broome Sr. and Janie Kate Hice Broome. She lived most of her life in Blackshear and Waycross and was a 1976 graduate of Blackshear High School. She had obtained a bachelor’s degree in public administration and a Med Tech certification and retired as the manager of the Waycross Public Health Lab, following 25 years of service.
In her younger years, she had worked with her parents at The Blackshear Times until her father sold it in 1970 and at Broome Printing, selling supplies or whatever her parents needed assistance with.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear, where she attended the Farr’s Fellowship and Seeking Sisters Sunday School Classes. She sang with the Worship Choir, had sung with the ladies’ ensembles One Voice and New Creation, had helped lead the children’s choir and served on the Music Committee and was a member of the WMU.
A lady of many talents, she was a gifted musician and singer, played the piano, violin and cello and had taught violin and piano through the years. She also enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of Lakeview Golf Club. She enjoyed sharing any knowledge or lessons she felt would help someone at any point during their life, being an encouragement to all she encountered and showing love and compassion to all around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sandra Jeffers Hooks.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Keith Jeffers, Waycross; brother, Dean Carl Broome Jr., Blackshear; sister, Amelia Janet Silverman (husband John), Cambridge, Massachusetts; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Richard Jeffers Sr. (wife Karen), Waycross, Jonathan Jeffers (wife Kathy), Blackshear and Rodney Hooks, Waycross; nieces and nephews, Michael Jeffers and Stephanie Ebersole (husband Phillip), all of Blackshear, Fran Carter, Waycross, Richard Jeffers Jr. (wife Danielle), Waycross and Marissa Hooks, Waycross and several great-nieces and great-nephews cousins and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear with the Rev. Richard Jeffers, the Rev. Dr. Bill Young and the Rev. Dr. Justin Gambrell officiating.
Interment will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
The family request that members of the First Baptist Church Worship Choir, Farr’s Fellowship Sunday School Class, and Seeking Sisters Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers. They are asked to please be at the church by 10:40 a.m. Thursday.
