Thomas Lee “Tommy” Howell, 82, of Blackshear, passed away early Sunday evening, December 3, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Waycross October 1, 1941, he lived in Pierce County all his life. He worked for CSX Transportation prior to going to work for AmTrak and retiring as a conductor. In his younger days, he loved to break horses and train them. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved the color red, especially his red truck. He was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a son of the late Troy and Mamie Lee Howell.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Faye “Goody” Metts Howell, Blackshear; four daughters, Sharon Thrift, Yulee, FL, Deborah (Allen) Stevens, Milledgeville, Dianna Floyd (Shane Moncy), Interlachen, FL and Dana Howell, Ocala, FL; a son, Richard (Joann) Leonard, Blackshear; his brother, Johnny (Judy) Howell, Blackshear; eight grandchildren, Brandi (Ben) Yang, Brintz (Lauren) Sweat, Shane Hayes, Amy Hughes, Blaise Sweat, Ashley (Brandon) Fredrick, Mary Jane Floyd and Hunni Simpson; 14 great-grandchildren; special helpers, Canyon Thrift, Yulee, FL and Preston Hughes, Blackshear; several nieces and nephews including a special great-nephew, Benjamin Howell and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, from the Youmans Chapel Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
