Helen Thornton Lee, 86, of Bristol, passed away Sunday evening, December 3, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.
Born May 20, 1937, in Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Tommie and Alma Milikin Thorton. She lived most of her life in Pierce and Ware Counties and was a 1955 graduate of Patterson High School. She had served Women’s Army Corps (WAC) of the United States Army and was a retired telephone operator for BellSouth and AT&T. She was a member of Bristol Baptist Church where she had been a volunteer for Vacation Bible School, served in the nursery and kitchen ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Lee; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard (Willie Mae) Thornton, Robert Thornton, Bill (Eleanor) Thornton and James (Martha) Thornton.
Survivors include her three children, William Scott Lee (wife Mary), Patterson, Lori Ann Wanzo (husband Darian), Jacksonville, FL, and Johnny Allison Lee (wife Dianne), Eustace, TX; seven grandchildren, Josh Lee (wife Erin), Clyo, Ashley Lee Davis (husband Kyle), Macon, Daniel Wanzo and Scarlett Lantz (husband Cody), both of Jacksonville, Lacey Woods (husband Michael), Gun Barrell City, TX, Daniell Howell, Eustace, TX and Allison Lee, Jr. (wife Erica), Mabank, TX; six great-grandchildren, Landon Edwards, Grayson Lee, Ward Davis, Cody Woods, Jayden Byars and Ella Lee; sister, Hazel Bowen (husband Sonny), Dublin and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Bristol Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, from the Bristol Baptist Church.
