Gerald Thomas "Jerry" Altman, 77, of Blackshear, passed away Monday afternoon, December 4, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear February 12, 1946, he lived in Pierce County most of his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Theater. He went to work for Carter South Shoe Factory when they opened in 1987 and remained there until they closed in 1996. He then went to work for Carolina Skiff in their maintenance department and retired after several years of service. He loved to play golf, fish, hunt and play basketball. Over the years he enjoyed planting gardens and farming. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by them all.
He was a son of the late Jesse Columbus Jr. and Cleo Eason Altman. He was also preceded in death by both of his sisters, Sandra Godwin Heintz and Linda Watkins and his brother, Edward Altman.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Lynn Dobson Altman, Blackshear; two daughters, Carrie Boatright, Blackshear and Laura Altom, Apex, NC; four sons, Lee (Anne Goyette) Altman, Smyrna, Brian (Nancy) Altman, Blackshear, Brian Altom, Portland, OR and Brent Altman, Waycross; 12 grandchildren, Katie Thomas, Brent (Kylie) Thomas, Keith (Shelby) Altman, Mercedes (Seth) Johnson, Jamie (Renee) Griner, Chase Altman, Brice (Kayleigh) Altman, Regan Boatright, Roman Boatright, Levi Davis, Paige Howell and Karlie (Daron) King; 13 great-grandchildren with two more on the way and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
