PCHS Bear swim team finishes season

The Pierce County High School  (PCHS) swim team closed out the season with a series of high placements and personal bests (PR).

On January 11 the PCHS swim team competed at the Waycross YMCA.

Out of ten total teams, the women placed third and the men took fourth.

In the Medley Relay, both the men’s and women’s teams came out the gate strong with third place finshes.

The men’s team of Corbin Hunzeker, Aiden Vergara, Conner Shipes and Walker Sergent posted their fastest time to date (2:00.77).

The women’s team of Shianne Mullis, Jacey Ryals, Jasmine Sergent and Emma Dyal followed suit with a time of (2:28.84).

The men’s 200yd Freestyle relay narrowly missed a first place finish with their fastest time of (1:46.82). They were edged out by Jeff Davis,.

The women’s 400yd Freestyle relay also saw Pierce County swimmers achieve their fastest time of the season (4:52.24). PCHS placed second in the event.

In individual action, Conner Shipes pushed his limits in the 200yd Freestyle, placing second and setting a new PR (2:21.40).

Shianne Mullis gave the team a boost by finishing first  in the women’s 200yd Freestyle (2:39.66).

Jasmine Sergent piled on points for the women with a sixth place finish in the 50yd Freestyle (30.21) and sixth place finish in the women’s 100yd Freestyle (1:08.18).

Jacey Ryals was right behind Sergent in the women’s 100yd Freestyle, placing seventh (1:09.17).

Corbin Hunzeker took fifth in the 100yd Backstroke (1:24.38).

Aiden Vergara took second in the 100yd Breastsroke (1:15.33) and Conner Shipes finished seventh (1:34.20).

In the women’s 100yd Breaststroke Jacey Ryals placed fifth (1:35.07) with Shianne Mullis right closely following in sixth place (1:35.29)

On January 14, PCHS swimmers traveled to Douglas to compete at the Coffee Winter Invitational and on January 21, PCHS hosted in Waycross at the Last Splash Invitational.

Highlights from both meets. include Davis Dyal dropping a second and a half on his 50yd Freestyle (30.51) at Coffee and half a second off of his 100yd Freestyle (1:14.24) at Ware.

Emma Dyal swam her season best 100yd Freestyle (1:21.35) at Coffee.

Rowan McCrea dropped twenty one seconds off of his 200yd Freestyle (2:43.34) at Coffee.

Shianne Mullis PR’d her 50yd Freestyle (31.66) at Coffee and her 100yd Freestyle (1:10.89) at Ware.

Jacey Ryals swam her fastest 50yd Freestyle (31.54) and crushed her 500yd Freestyle time, improving by twenty two seconds, both at Ware.

Jasmine Sergent swam her best 100yd Breaststroke (1:34.62) at Ware.

Aiden Vergara swam his season best individual 50yd Freestyle (26.23) at Ware.

Rory Wiliams PR’d in both her 50yd Freestyle (38.17) and 100yd Backstroke (1:47.09) at the Coffee meet.

The PCHS Swim Bears closed out the season with a team win on January 23 at a meet hosted by Jeff Davis High.

PCHS racked up 526 points, followed by Jeff Davis, Fitzgerald, and Vidalia.

For the PCHS ladies: Jasmine Sergent won the 100-yard butterfly with a new personal record.

Jacey Ryals won the 200-yd freestyle while Emma Dyal won the 50-free.

In the women’s 100yd Breaststroke Shianne Mullis placed second, while Devyn Ball came in third.

Jasmine Sergent and Rory Williams posted points in the women’s 100-yd Backstroke with second and fourth place finishes.

Jacey Ryals became the first two Pierce County females to break the seven minute milestone in the 500-freestyle.

The medley relay of Shianne Mullis, Jacey Ryals, Jasmine Sergent and Emma Dyal also finished first.

For the PCHS men: Conner Shipes placed first in the 200-yd Freestyle.

Walker Sergent placed second in the 100-yard Butterfly.  

In the men’s 100-yd Freestyle, Davis Dyal set a personal record to earn 4th place.

In the 500-freestyle, Aiden Vergara set a new PR.

The relay of Corbin Hunzeker, Aiden Vergara, Walker Sergent, and Conner Shipes placed second with their  season-best time.

In the men’s 100-Breaststroke, Aiden Vergara finished second and Davis Dyal took third.

Walker Sergent and Corbin Hunzeker took 1st and 2nd in the 100-yd Backstroke.

The men’s 200-yd Freestyle Relay of Sergent, Hunzeker, Shipes and Vergara finished the season with their fastest swim (1:45.58) adding another second place finish to the PC total.
