This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning February 9-15, 2023.
We salute a newly-crowned state champions at PCHS! Hannah Bonvechio won top honors at the State Beta Convention in Savannah recently, competing in Creative Writing/Division I. Meanwhile, Bowen James placed 4th in Social Studies(Tenth Grade). Congrats to both Hannah and Bowen. The Beta Club advisors are Mrs. Emily Crosby and Mrs. Virginia Tison.
Congratulations to the following students who placed at FBLA Region Competition at Lowndes High School. Our 1st place winners included: Cianna Kicklighter (Business Communications), James Bergland (Intro to Financial Math), Connor Rye (Banking & Financial Systems & Management Information Systems), Harlee Costa (Business Management), and Nathan Rupright (Spreadsheet Applications). Our 2nd place winners included: Maria Sotello (Word Processing), Jami Strickland (Future Business Leader & Help Desk) and James Bergland (Intro to Business Communication). Our 3rd place winners were Nathan Rupright (Future Business Leader), Regan Boatright & Maddie White (Graphic Design), and Nicholas Sweat (Business Calculations). Those earning 5th place were Kole Bryant (Economics), Harlee Costa (Hospitality & Event Management), and Regan Boatright & Maddie White (Digital Video Production). Ciana Kicklighter also earned a 6th place finish (Business Calculations) while Ram Patel earned an 8th place finish (Personal Finance). Mrs. Lauren Whitaker is the FBLA advisor.
Hats off to Austin Sikes, Caleb Howell, Mason Roberson, and Connor Rye for receiving their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Word 2019! Mrs. Lauren Whitaker is the instructor.
In sports, four PCHS football players signed letters of intent on National Signing Day. Jimarion Guyton signed with Independence Community College, while D.J. Bell and Jacquez White both signed with Washburn University, and Jonah Allen with Valdosta State University. D.J, Jimarion, and Jacquez all learned this week that they were accorded All-State accolades by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA). Congratulations to you all.

Our theater students will be participating in the State Thespian Conference in Columbus, beginning tomorrow (Thursday) through Saturday. Break a leg, guys!

Save the date! Friday, March 10 from 10 until 1, it’s the 2023 Spring Klondike Career Day at Georgia Power’s Savannah Operating Headquarters. This is a career exposure event for high school students. Activities include a live wire demonstration, bucket truck exhibitions, network underground, metering, transmission and climbing.

Candidates for the 2023 Sound of Silver Auxiliary units, mark your calendars: Danceline and Majorette practice will be Monday, Feb. 27 through Thursday, Mar. 2nd from 3:45 until 5:30 each day. Tryout day will be Friday, March 3 in front of judges. Colorguard and flagline practice will be Friday, March 10 and again from Tuesday, March. 14 through Thursday, March 16 from 3:45 until 5:30 each of those days. Tryout day will be Friday, March 17 in front of judges. You are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, but all attire must be in accordance with the dress code. Permitted attire includes : T-Shirts, shorts, leggings, tennis shoes, and dance shoes. Not allowed are short shorts, midriff tops/no stomachs showing, low cut tops, sandals, slippers, or shower shoes.

“Have a Heart”! PBIS is selling Valentine hearts with chocolate - at breakfast and lunch - for 50 cents or 3 for a dollar. Valentines will be delivered from the sender to the recipient during 1st block on Valentine’s Day.

Attention PCHS artists! This spring there are multiple opportunities for you to show off your talent throughout our area. Various art shows will be kicking off within the next few weeks, and we are looking for artists to submit their best artwork. If you are interested, please bring your artwork, with your name and grade attached, to Mr. Jerry Murray in the art room by Friday, February 17th.
Any girl interested in participating in the Miss Pierce County High School pageant can pick up a registration form from Mrs. Beverly’s room (395) in the mornings before 8:15 or during 4th block. The pageant is March 25. The deadline to enter is Friday, March 10.
The annual PCHS Teacher Signing Day will be Monday, May 1. Participants must be seniors graduating in 2023 who want to pursue working with children in education as their career job. Students come by Mrs Amy Day’s classroom 249 to sign up.

Juniors and seniors and their guests are invited to “Dance through the Decades” on Saturday, April 22. Your class dues must be paid before we leave for spring break on March 31 in order to attend prom. Dues are as follows: freshmen ($5), sophomores ($10), juniors ($25), and seniors ($20). Prom guests must be at least in 9th grade and no older than 20. Any guest must be pre-approved by the PCHS administration. To get a guest pre-approved, you must fill out the blue guest registration form that is located outside of Mrs. Slusher’s classroom (399). The registration form, a copy of the guest’s picture ID, and a guest fee must be turned in to Mrs. Slusher before March 31.
