Can you help our veterans?

Herman McCarthy is looking for some help and you can assist.

McCarthy, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, is active with the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and with area veterans and military service causes and organizations.

“I would just like to ask folks to help us help out our fellow veterans,” he said.

McCarthy would like to encourage his fellow Vietnam Veterans to join the local VVA Chapter. He currently serves as chaplain of the group, but has served in about every office in the chapter.

The local VVA meets in Waycross on the second Thursday of each month. Meal begins at 5:30 p.m. with the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are held at the Captain Joe’s Restaurant in Waycross.

McCarthy said his interest is not just in helping Vietnam veterans but all veterans.

He is active in helping local veterans get the help they need whether it be with medical care or with Veterans Administration Benefits.

“Regardless of which war you served in, I want to try to help you if you have a need,” he said.

McCarthy and area veterans are also currently trying to establish a museum honoring the contributions of area veterans.

“We have some land available, we just need a facility to house the material,” he said.

For more information, call McCarthy at (912) 281-3932.
