Calvin Gene Rinehart, Sr., 74, of Jesup, died Friday, October 28, 2022.
A native of Wayne County, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a 1966 Wayne County High School graduate. He received two associates degrees, the first from South Georgia College in Douglas while playing baseball and then at John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, TN. He also attended Georgia Southern College. His family-owned funeral home that began in 1931 continued with the addition of Gene as part of the ‘Sons’ of “Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home”. He will always be remembered as one who could make people laugh with all of his comical stories and jokes by easing a heavy burden at a time of grief. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. His parents, George William “Bill” Sr. and Eulee Herndon Rinehart preceded him in death along with his brother, George William “Billy” Rinehart Jr.
Survivors are his loving wife of 51 years, Donna Roberson Rinehart, Jesup; a son, Calvin “Cal” Gene Rinehart Jr., Jesup and his children, Kenna, Jakob, Rylee and Logan; a daughter, Heather (Chad) Scarborough, Odum and their children, Wes, Jake and Jed; a sister, Sarah Rinehart Geiger, Odum; a niece, Leslie (Joey) Rinehart Miller, Screven and two nephews, George William (Charlotte) Rinehart III and David (Chasity) Geiger, both of Jesup; several great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Winnie Cooper and Norma (Robert) Odum and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 31, from the Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Place Road, Memphis, TN 38105.
