Misty Davis, Pierce County’s first female sheriff’s deputy, passed away last Wednesday, Feb. 15. She was 47.
Davis became the first female deputy in 2002 under then-Sheriff Richard King. She worked as a patrol deputy for almost two years before resigning to enter another field of public service — as a nurse.
Davis earned a nursing degree and worked at Pierce County Nursing Home, the Southeast Georgia Health System – Brunswick Campus and as a traveling nurse.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
