Andrea Dixon has been hired as assistant principal at Blackshear Elementary.
The hiring came during a called meeting of the board of education Friday morning. The decision came after a 15 minute closed session. Blackshear Elementary principal Lanna Denison was called into the session.
After the closed session, Dixon was hired along with Katie Waters as a teacher at the middle school and Peyton Shabott as a teacher at the high school.
Andrea Dixon will succeed LeAnne Dixon who stepped down Feb. 2 to spend more time with her family. (See related story.)
Andrea Dixon has been employed with the school system for for past 20 years.
She is a graduate of Valdosta State University.
She and her husband, Sidney, have three children.
